Stage 6 of the 40th Dakar Rally saw competitors cross borders as they travelled 313kms between Peru and Bolivia - leaving the dunes to take on the dirt - in extremely wet conditions.

Nasser Al Attiyah was the best of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team - finishing third behind the 2 Peugeots of Sainz and Stephane Peterhansel - Giniel de Villiers was 4, and Bernard ten brink 7th. Team principal Glyn Hall admits it wasn’t a bad day but could’ve been better.

Stephane Peterhansel leads overall - while Ten Brinke is the best placed of the South African outfit - in 3rd place and 1 hour and 20 minutes off the pace. Al Attiyah is 4th, with de Villiers rounding off the top 5. The competitors enjoy a rest day today before taking on the marathon stage tomorrow.

So 1 hour, 35 minutes and 59 seconds separates 1st from 5 at the Dakar Rally - and there is still plenty of action left.
