Why are premiers only vacating in March?

Bloemfontein - Questions relating to what is going to happen in the Free State and Gauteng while Ace Magashule and Paul Mashatile occupy both the national and provincial positions are mounting, and this might not pan out well. This is according to a political analyst from the Free State University, Sethulego Matebesi. He says Magashule and Mashatile should have long vacated their provincial positions as both the secretary general and treasurer general positions are full-time in the ANC. This, despite Magashule’s recent announced that they will only be resigning from their provincial positions in March. Matebesi says it seems like some ANC leaders are left to exploit the party’s constitution to their own advantage and predictions are that they might be stalling on their resignations to ensure that their provincial positions are occupied by preferred candidates. Magashule, has since told the media in East London last week that resigning in March would not cause instability in the Free State. Meanwhile, the names of the provincial MEC for the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mathabo Leeto, as well as the MEC for the Department of Police, Roads and Transport , Sam Mashinini have been making rounds on social media as the candidates likely to take over Magashule’s position. - Katleho Morapela/OFM News
