Celtic Corner - 29 January 2018

Bloemfontein Celtic appear to be a in a bit of a rut at the moment, especially after their fantastic start to the 2017/18 season.

The team reached the Telkom Knockout final and also found themselves second on the Premier Soccer League standings at one stage. But the team hasn’t been able earn a win in their last four matches with a heavy 4-0 loss to Maritzburg United, a 1-0 loss to Wits and draw against AmaZulu and Cape Town City FC last week.

Yesterday Phunya Sele Sele had to dig deep to cancel out a 40th minute Mbhazima Rikhotso own goal, to earn a draw against the Citizens at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.

It was truly a game of two halves with the suspended Benni McCarthy’s team owning the first 45 minutes. In the second stanza, Celtic were way more superior and earned free kick which Ndumiso Mabena rocketed into the back of the net for the equaliser.

Coach Veselin Jilusic says Mabena’s goal was simply brilliant.
