The disgraced former Australian cricket captain, Steve Smith, broke down during his press conference upon arriving back in Sydney today.

The cricketer, along with David Warner, was banned from domestic and international cricket for 12 months for their involvement in the Sandpaper Gate saga at Newlands on Saturday during the third Test against South Africa.

Cameron Bancroft, who received a 9-month ban for tampering with the ball, asked for forgiveness upon his arrival in Perth.

A visibly distraught and emotional Smith said he let everyone down before breaking down.

The fourth and final Test between the Proteas and Baggy Greens starts tomorrow morning at the Wanderers.
