Two men will appear at the Brits Magistrate’s Court tomorrow after they allegedly walked into the Hawks’ Rustenburg offices with R10 000 cash with the hopes of bribing investigators at these offices to release a truck carrying a consignment of illegal cigarettes said to be worth R9, 9 million. According to the Hawks spokesperson in the North West, Tlangelani Rikhotso, on Monday last week, the police’s Rustenburg Cluster received information that there was a truck carrying dozens of illicit cigarette boxes. Acting on the tip off, police then recovered the truck at a guest house in Boshoek, 32 kilometres near Rustenburg. OFM News’ Pulane Choane reports that the suspects would later try to pay the said amount in order to recover the cigarette consignment but only ended up behind bars.
