Streef na heelhartige toewyding aan God

Die Bybel sê: ‘Amasia het gedoen wat reg was vir die Here, maar nie met sy hele hart nie’ (vers 2 NLV). Vergelyk dit met wat God oor Dawid gesê het: ‘…Ek het Dawid… gekry; hy is ‘n man na my hart. Hy sal alles doen wat Ek wil hê’ (Handelinge 13:22 NLV). Dit kan bietjie verwarrend wees, want wanneer jy oor Dawid se lewe lees, kry jy hoofstukke van owerspel, moord en toesmeerdery. Hy is ‘n ramp as man en ‘n onwaardige pa.

Sy hart is egter aan God toegewy. Hoe weet ons dit? Want wanneer hy foute gemaak het en gesondig het, het hy berou en die begeerte om dinge reg te maak by God, gehad. Toe Dawid die verbondsark na Israel toe teruggelei het, het hy ‘…met volle oorgawe voor die Here gedans…’ (2 Samuel 6:14 NLV). Hy het homself heeltemal daarin gewerp.

Die Skrif sê dat Dawid voor die Here gespring en gedans het (sien 2 Samuel 6:16). In die vroeë geskiedenis is die hart as die kern van die mens gesien. Dit het nie net gevoelens gehuisves nie, maar is as die middelpunt van 'n persoon se wese, veral sy of haar wil, gesien. Heelhartige toewyding aan God wys dus wat jy kies om met al jou energie aan te gryp. Amasia het nege-en-twintig jare van sy lewe bestee om sy toewyding aan God te verfyn. Hy het gedoen wat reg is, maar sy hart was nie daarin nie. Dawid het, ten spyte van sy foute, God met sy hele hart nagestreef. Die woord vir jou vandag is dus - streef na heelhartige toewyding aan God.
