The ex-offender and GBVF Ambassador Betty Tsie, has encouraged women in particular not to stay in abusive relationships and to start their lives afresh with their children.

Tsie was one of the guest speaker's at the Mpumalanga provincial launch of 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, launched by the Mpumalanga Premier, Mandla Ndlovu at Adward Matyeka Primary School in eMalahleni on November 27, 2025.

She says GBVF is real, and it affects everyone, not only women but also children and men as well.

This comes after she shared her life journey about how she was abused by her late husband, whom she murdered, and served 10 years behind bars.

She says she is not proud about killing her husband, but she didn't have a choice.

She says she regrets her decision because she left her children behind and suffered abuse.

She says women should leave toxic relationships immediately before they are murdered or murder their partners.
