During OFM’s Pinktober campaign, Pulane speaks to 44-year-old Keatlaretse Mogajane, affectionately known as Chef Kea, about her breast cancer journey and how it inspired her to raise awareness in her community.
A professional chef and mother to a son, Chef Kea discovered a lump in her breast in September 2020. After seeking medical help and undergoing a biopsy, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
Her treatment included 9 months of chemotherapy, extended due to complications with her red blood cell levels, followed by three weeks of radiation. During this difficult time, Reach for Recovery (RFR) provided valuable emotional support and helped her come to terms with her diagnosis.
Today, Chef Kea visits her local clinic whenever she can to educate others about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. By sharing her story, she hopes to encourage women to pay attention to changes in their breasts and seek medical help without delay.
